Program Description:
Forge Institute was awarded a Department of Defense funded STEM project to provide educational outreach, instruction and opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The program’s goal is to raise interest and improve the knowledge and skills of at-risk youth in STEM fields with a hands-on minds-on approach. Desired outcomes are to provide a highly educated and skilled workforce that can answer Arkansas growing STEM career demand.
Position Description:
The Deputy Director or Lead Instructor of StarBaseAR is responsible for supporting the Director; serving as Lead teacher; supervising and mentoring Instructors and Instructor Assistants; developing curriculum; coordinating class visits and field trip experiences; and actively seeking out opportunities to support and enhance the StarBaseAR program.
Key Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities as a member of our team, will include but are not limited to:
Assist the Director with operations, management, development and implementation of the STARBASE Arkansas program.
Serve as second in command and assume the role of Director in their absence.
Assist in all facets of STARBASE development and implementation.
Supervise the scheduling, training and work of other STARBASE instructors &/or volunteers.
Prepare materials, set up classrooms, and instruct classes.
Alternate as lead teacher and support teacher per schedule to present STARBASE lessons and activities to participating classes.
Identify participating individual students’ needs, and attempt to provide appropriate intervention and accommodation to help insure success in program completion.
Assist in curriculum development & integration with local, state, and national objectives
Assist visiting teachers who participate in STARBASE Arkansas.
Participate in Forge and DoD mandated staff development as directed.
Assist in planning, preparing, and conducting program workshops at local, state, and national levels.
Assure all office, presentation, or student computers are properly maintained.
Serve as mentor to visiting Student Teachers
Serve as liaison for all building maintenance issues
Write thank-you notes to volunteers, teachers, sponsors, and others
Conduct evaluations, collect data, and prepare statistical summaries of program data
Assist in coordinating Student Teacher Field Experience, read journals, complete evaluations
Actively seek out opportunities to enhance program through award nominations, assisting with grants, or helping secure program sponsors
Assist in various planning, preparing, and hosting of receptions and fundraising venues, as needed
Assist in computer upkeep and troubleshooting
Receive visitors and telephone calls
Select and prepare requests for appropriate materials for purchase
Assist in verifying material shipments, updating material inventories, and putting away supplies
Replenish bathroom supplies, water plants, maintain garden, vacuum, clean lab and computer tables, as needed
Participate in continual cleaning and maintenance of office and kitchen
Obtain a background check and Security Clearance through the 19th Airlift Wing Security Forces
Agree to random drug testing throughout duration of employment
Assist in all other duties or activities deemed necessary for mission success by the STARBASE Arkansas Director or designee
Represent Forge Institute and its programs through community outreach engagement. This includes attending relevant cyber and tech community groups, conferences, etc., offering to participate in relevant group discussions (panel discussions), and any additional outreach opportunities assigned to you
Required skills & Qualifications:

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Three year’s experience in elementary education
Professional client-facing demeanor, comfortable in the boardroom or the classroom
Strong, clear verbal and written communication skills
Capable of completing tasks on time without supervision
Desire to grow and expand both technical and soft skills
Strong project management skills
Experience working for a nonprofit organization
Ability to foster a positive work environment and attitude
Capacity to accomplish interagency collaborations
Strong leader, able to drive a growing team
Experience working with students with various backgrounds, abilities, and needs
Familiarity with reading state standards and developing engaging curriculum
Have or be able to gain and maintain a Security Clearance
